…Come on with the rain
I’ve a smile on my face
I’ll walk down the lane
With a happy refrain
Just singin’…or walking?
~Lyric excerpt from song Singin’ In the Rain~
After three hours walking in the rain, my waterproof gear earned its name.
It’s been several weeks since I last forest bathed and I wasn’t about to let the pelting rain and single digit temperatures stop me from the first opportunity I’ve had in a while to walk on the wild side.
When the sun is shining and the weather is warm it’s easy to want to go outside for a walk. When the weather is inclement, however, it takes a lot more persuasion to go for that walk. There are some perks, though, to walking in less than desirable weather.
- Quiet Most people don’t like to be out in bad weather so there’s a good chance you will have the trail all to yourself.
- Colour Clouds diffuse light so the colours of nature appear more brilliant.
- Conquer To brave the elements (particularly clothed in gore-tex, thermal and wicking fabrics) and remain warm and dry gives a feeling of accomplishment.
- Cardio Wind adds a bit of resistance thus giving your walk a bit of a cardio kick.
What is the worst weather that you’ve walked in (by choice)?
