Sodium bicarbonate or baking soda has many uses beyond baking.
Add some to your bath to help soften skin. (It is also believed to have a detoxifying effect when added to baths.)
Make a paste by mixing enough water to baking soda. Use on itchy bug bites. (When I had chicken pox, baking soda was a recommended remedy for the itchiness of this condition and it worked!)
Use a minute amount each of baking soda and witch hazel to pat on your armpits for a deodorizing effect.
Add some baking soda to your shampoo for a cleansing effect.
Combine a couple of drops essential oil (eg tea tree, lavender, lemongrass) with some baking soda. Sprinkle over the carpet and let sit one minute then vacuum.
Sprinkle some baking soda at the bottom of your garbage can to help neutralize odours. Optional: add one drop of essential oil to add a pleasant aroma.
