Wellness Wednesday -Social determinants of health

When speaking of health, certain lifestyle factors get ample attention: regular exercise, activity level and a nutritious diet. Genetics also play a role but social determinants of health can have a crucial effect on health.

  • job security
  • income and social status
  • social and physical environment
  • a sense of belonging, purpose or contribution
  • decent housing
  • education

These are amongst some of the factors that shape our health and should be taken into account when considering a wellness plan.
