Wellness Wednesday – In a pinch

You may find yourself coming down with something and without immediate access to a doctor/clinic. Presuming that it is nothing too serious, here are some natural ways to help you manage symptoms associated with a bad cough.

  • Sugar honey honey. Touted for antibacterial properties and used in a natural medicine cabinet, honey is said to soothe sore throats and can function as an expectorant and antitussive. I swear by manuka honey with a good UMF rating. I also use a manuka honey cough syrup.
  • It’s essential. Eucalyptus radiata (white gum), thyme, peppermint and tea tree are a few of the essential oils recommended for use with coughs.
  • ”It’s getting hot in here.” Warm moisture also helps to loosen phlegm. A bowl of hot water for a facial steam (perhaps with a few drops of peppermint and eucalyptus oil added) will do or try a hot steamy shower.
  • In sickness and in health. Drink sufficient amounts of water, always.
