Wellness Wednesday – NHP week

What better way to get back into wellness blogging than with National Health Product(NHP) week. NHP happens November 12-18, 2017 and is presented by the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA), a trade association in Canada dealing with natural and organic products.

NHP week focuses on what the CHFA terms the four pillars of immune health: exercise, nutrition, sleep and mindfulness.

Exercise

Improved circulation and the release of endorphins are some of the benefits of exercise. Protein for muscle repair and anti-inflammatory supplements (eg omega 3 oil) can assist with the crucial phase of post-exercise recovery.

Nutrition

Poor nutrition can negatively impact the body’s natural healing mechanisms. Besides eating a variety of healthy foods that provide macro and micro nutrients, a probiotic supplement can also help support the body’s immune system in both the gut and body.

Sleep

Inadequate sleep can affect the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Essential oils such as valerian and lavender can help promote restful sleep. A magnesium supplement has also been recommended prior to bedtime for its calming effect on the nervous system.

Mindfulness

Stress has been implicated in a number of conditions, including a depressed immune system. Essential oils can also help with stress management. Look into the benefits of bergamot and chamomile essential oils.

Eating a well-balanced diet, practising mindfulness and getting enough sleep and exercise can help support immune health. Using natural health products can be a beneficial part of your personal wellness routine.

*Before using any natural health product, make sure to consult with the appropriate trained professional.
