Wellness Wednesday – Aromatherapy & Fitness

Aromatherapy can be used in many facets of life. For today’s post, a few suggestions for the fitness enthusiast on oils and applications for use.

*The following by no means is an exhaustive list.

You don’t have to be an athlete to get athlete’s foot but you can be exposed to fungus and bacteria in the gym shower or in wet and sweaty socks. Suggested oils: tea tree, oregano, thyme, clove

For a cooling effect post workout, try a peppermint hydrosol spritzed on your face and in the armpits. For a deodorizing effect in your gym bag, apply a couple drops of lavender.

Muscle soreness after a workout, often termed DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) can be an issue for veteran exercises and newbies. A bath or massage with essential oils can help mitigate this.  Suggested oils: eucalyptus, lavender, marjoram, rosemary, black pepper, cypress. And if you find yourself experiencing inflammation along with the soreness, try ginger and chamomile.
