Whether walking, hiking or strolling on your travels, moving from place to place on foot (perambulation) is an ideal way to increase your metabolic output (think NEAT) and get some exercise while experiencing your surroundings. Here are just a few ways you can stay active while keeping your feet moving.
- Grab a map and do a self-guided orientation to get familiar with your surroundings.
- Join an organized walking tour.
- Explore. Some cities are naturally pedestrian friendly eg. malls where vehicles are prohibited and ancient sites built long before mass transportation was invented.
- Take a hike. Walking in a natural environment has the added benefit of nature’s restorative properties.
Whether you opt for something easy, challenging or just plain accessible, there is a path for everyone. Just “walk this way.”
