The Pan Am and Parapan Am Games are taking place in Canada’s largest city. This sporting event has athletes from 41 countries throughout the Americas and the Caribbean competing in the city of Toronto and surrounding areas. Despite the competition, though, sports has a way of bringing people together. Camaraderie can happen on the road when you connect with strangers over a spectacular feat of strength, performance or goal.
I should have known that I was infected with the travel bug from a young age as I excitedly watched the opening ceremonies of various world sporting events just to see the parade of nations.
The Olympic Games; The Commonwealth Games; The Pan Am Games
This year was no different. Watching the national teams walk into the stadium, I counted 7 countries that I have been to: Canada, the US, Bermuda, Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Cuba.

How many of these countries have you been to?
This makes me realize how much more of the Americas I need to visit! I have been to 8.
That’s one more than me! And the Americas are closer than other parts of the planet I have visited. Time to travel a bit closer to home.
