A trip to Africa is no easy feat. This is a huge continent with a wide range of terrain and vast variety of culture and languages. There are numerous diseases and annoyances that can wreak havoc with your health along with expensive flights, and political upheaval. The tourism infrastructure is also a work in progress. However, when you manage to make it here, the experience is priceless.
May we suggest the following as a start to your African adventure:
South Africa
With the passing of Nelson Mandela and the 20th anniversary of democracy coming up, this can be a very poignant time to visit. And since you are so close, how about…
Madagascar
A huge island off the coast of southern Africa, this is the home to the lemur.
Ethiopia
A country rich in history and the only one (of two) in Africa never to have been colonized by a European power.
Good old Morocco; a popular destination for tourists for quite some time. Politically it is relatively stable here and you get a taste of North African culture.
